Top Tips For Guaranteed Heartfelt Toasts

Weddings

Do

Share how they met

If you know the story really well or if you were a part of the story or a witness to it then you are a great resource to tell this story.  Share how they felt when they met, share a cute thing one of them did.  Share the proposal story, or when you knew they were going to get married.  Focus on things you witnessed and your speech will blow people away.

Dont

talk about the ex

Dont talk about exes…in any way, shape or form!  You might think its funny and some stories really might be hilarious but when your standing in front of grandparents, the person they HAVE chosen to marry AND a whole other family you may not know?  This is a sure way to make everyone uncomfortable but no more than the bride or groom you are talking about as well.

Do

Give Advice

If you are married, give marriage advice: You’ve lived through the hard times of marriage, you are able to see the most helpful and valuable lessons to be learned within the adventure of marriage.

Dont

wait until the last minute

You probably do not want to write the toast the day before or morning of the wedding.  Think of how far in advance were you asked to be the maid of honor, best man, or asked to speak at such an important event and time.  If you are a parent, how long have you been thinking of this day.  If you come unprepared, you’ll look unprepared and sound unprepared.  Lets show up for those we love!
